I dont want to leave T.T)

Sadly, today is our last day here at the Field Museum and I want to add that this summer has bee better than any other. School has yet again ripped apart the fun of summer like a cat eating a bird. Luckily, this school year won’t be so bad since we are going to be seniors!! That means we are going to be applying to colleges and universities. Nevertheless, I wish I could work for the rest of my life instead of going to school, but I need to graduate from high school and college before I can do that.

Today isn’t going to end out in all depression memories though, because we met some amazing people today. Today we met 7 of the 13 awesome Dartmouth College students who are on a rode trip in their Big Green bus! this isn’t a normal big green bus though…… This bus, in my opinion, is the dream car that any body should want to have. Not just because it smells of french fries, but because it is a bus converted to run on vegetable oil. I didn’t think something like that could happen and run so efficiently. It’s just amazing how one college can work together for such a awesome project. The students on the bus are extremely nice and fun too. Amber, Dr. Drew and I got a tour on how the bus works inside and out, and i must say it is really amazing how it works. At the end of our tour we gave them a tour of where we worked at this summer(The C.R.C). Then gave then a tour of the fish collections before setting them free to room the Museum.

To end of this blog, I would like to thank everyone for their support as we enter the school year with major accomplishments. Also, this will be our last blog for a duration of time, so from time to time we will update our blog. Unfortunately, today we must say good bye for now, so Thanks again to all who supported our blog with your views.

The Big Green Bus Blog-Vehicle For Change

The Big Green Bus Blog-Vehicle For Change:
Check out the Big Green Bus Blog. It includes college students from Dartmouth College traveling by bus all through the United States to find places that support healthier fuels for the Earth. Their bus travels on vegetable oil and biodiesel that is less harmful to the Earth’s atmosphere. They have visited places like Las Vegas, Tampa, Boston, Chicago, Austin, and more, to find places that support their project or practice energy saving. Where we can have a beautiful and healthy Earth to live on. Thanks!

Never Can Say Goodbye

Unfortunately, today is Darcae and I last day at the Field Museum. We start school back Tuesday. I am very excited to start school because I miss my friends and teachers. Plus, it will be my last year in high school before I go off to college. Although, I will miss all the people I met here and the exhibits that I learned a lot from. Most of all, I will miss our boss, Dr.Drew. He is an amazing man that taught us many things. He has helped us with college and our education. He has taken us to fun places. All in all, Dr.Drew has done a lot for us and we could not have gotten here without him or Dr. Mark Westneat (his boss).

However, Darcae and I will not be gone entirely… We will be coming back on Wednesdays to finish our new species project. We just had to let everyone know that we will not be blogging as frequently as we use to. But, we will come back as much as we can to keep you updated on the project. We will also try to post things outside work, like about school. We will post our luncheon, prom, and graduation pictures. Maybe let you see and meet some of our closest friends.

In the end, I just like to take the time to thank you all for being very supportive of us. We hope that we taught, informed, and entertained you as much as we could. I like to thank some of our most frequent followers, Jasmined and Sue the dinosaur, because you have visit and comment on our blog the most. We will miss the museum and everyone that has followed our page. Thanks for those who have tried to check our blog out. Most importantly, thank the Field Museum for giving us this awesome opportunity.

Bye Bye.

Amber

Tears:(. Man, I just cannot say goodbye. Like Michael Jackson says, never can say goodbye! (LOL) I will write again later though.

Side view of The Big Green Bus that has 7 out of the 13 awesome...

Side view of The Big Green Bus that has 7 out of the 13 awesome people in it.

Amber and I standing in front of the Big Green bus!!

We're getting known!)

This is our last week and so far it’s ending in so much publicity (in my opinion). With the College that change lives college fair Sunday I believe Amber and I made a really good impression with all the college counselors that were there. We didn’t just go there and talk to them like normal teens. We researched the colleges we were interested in and emailed their counselor of our area/state that we would be attending this fair.

When the day of the college fair came (Sunday, August 28, 2011). We arrived with a copy of our resume, that we had been working on for about 2 weeks. After the introduction to the fair we started in a large room with each college having their own booth/table. Amber and started with the college we both picked to look into which was Eckerd college. We talk to Mike Brown a admission counselor there we had been emailing and keeping in contact with. We talked to him for a good amount of time about our internship and about his college and about 5-9 minutes later came back to hand him our resume. The next college admission counselor I went to talk to was Ting Chu-Richardson from Hampshire college. I also talked to her about her college and Amber and my internship at the Field Museum and handed her a copy pf my resume. For the supposedly last college, Beloit college, I seen that the table was full, so I did what a ex-counselor told me to do and checked at a college table that was empty at the moment, which was Birmingham Southern College. After talking to their counselor, Mr. Hawkins, I got a quick interest in them and handed Mr. Hawkins a copy of my resume.

5 minutes later, after the crowd calmed down around the Beloit table I walked over and talked to one of the two counselors there. I talked with Alex Catalan for about 5 minutes about my visit Beloit and scholarships there. I ended the conversation with the quick hand off of my resume and waited for Amber. However Amber was still talking to one of her colleges so while she was doing that I talk to 3 Interesting colleges (Hiram College, Hendrix College, and Millsaps College). All of which could be mind changers in my college choosing.

Sadly though, the concluding event is of our internship ended with us giving out Presentation about what did for our internship this summer today, August 31, 2011. Shockingly, thanks to our teachers at Voise academy, our confidence with public speaking guided us though the presentation ion a flash and with rarely any problems (Besides me talking to fast).

Amber 8.31.11 (New Changes)

It is the end of August, our internship is almost over, and school is starting next Tuesday. Things are going to be different as me and Darcae finish our last year of high school and start our first year of college in fall of 2012. Our boss has took a big step with helping us in our college education. He has took us to visit a college. He helped us put together our resumes. He also took us to the Colleges That Changes Lives Fair (CTCL) Sunday. We talked to interesting admission officers and learned a lot about colleges that will benefit us. I have took interest in some of them.

We really worked hard this summer to help sort the Samoa and Papua New Guinea Fish. We also helped identify a new and blue Amblyglyphidodon aureus. Now, we have to papers in preparation of the collections and new species. We presented this through our presentation today in front of some awesome staff who helped us along the way. Dr.Drew had a surprise guess, his friend Tom Riggis, who tweets about science, came to see us. Darcae and I were really nervous but we relaxed quickly. The presentation was a smooth sail and everyone were so proud of us. Afterwards, they congratulated and complimented us a lot. It made us feel really happy because we were shaky.

I am going to miss the Field Museum a lot once the internship is completely over. But while I am still here I will cherish it because we met some amazing people. They were there for us, taught us, advised us, and pushed us along the way. I have built an everlasting relationship with them. I will not forget them.

Darcae and I Chicago Sun-Times Article

Darcae and I Chicago Sun-Times Article

Tour of the Collections part 4

Tour of the Collections part 4

Tour of the collection part 3

Tour of the collection part 3

Tour of the collections part 2

Tour of the collections part 2

Tour in the Collections part 1

Tour in the Collections part 1

Random footage and stuff in DC

Random footage and stuff in DC

This is a powerpoint of some of the pictures taken in Washington...
