Darcae Blog 8 (Another delayed release of our...
In the last couple of days we have been putting our blood, sweat and tears into our “Papua New Guinea” fish sorting project, that’s not the actual name, but it’s the one i give it. In this project, in which I made a simple name for, Dr. Drew,Amber, and I have been down below the museum in the C.R.C(Collections and Resource Center) or in other less confusing letters( forming...
Blog 7.28.11(The Best Surprise Ever!)
Man we have not blogged in a long time. Things have been going really awesome lately. We are almost finished with labeling Dr.Drew’s fish from Papua New Guinea and North Samoa. Darcae and I are becoming really good with matching fish in families. Dr.Drew wants to make sure we are getting a lesson out of everything we are doing at the Field Museum. I will say that we definitely are!
We also...
Darcae Blog 7 (Delayed, but not from work July...
For the past 3 days Dr. Drew, Amber and I have been measuring the Samoa Amblyglyphidodon that Josh( a.k.a. Dr. Drew) caught there on his last trip. It may seem routine to some of you reading this, but each measurement we did, no matter how alike each fish looked, turned out to be different. It’s interesting to look at two fish that look exactly alike, measure them and find out they each...
Blog 8(Hey,what's the hold up?)
Hey everyone, sorry we haven’t been able to blog lately. Excuse our absence but we have been unable to blog due to the meetings being held here for the past two days. Man have you all been missing out on a lot of things. Yesterday(7.20.11), we were doing PCR in the lab with our fish DNA; I ran 22 samples. It was kind of hectic because you don’t want to mess up. I may have made some...
This is the process of the morphology analyzing.

Darcae Blog 6 (Back to action)
Yesterday, July 13, 2010(Wednesday), Amber and I returned to work with Dr. Drew at the Museum I know we all missed from our week vacation. Each of us came back relaxed and ready for the war against the unknown fish that wanted to be identified(This week I added a dramatic feel, hope you all like). We started off the day different from previous past days in which we started to learn how to...
Blog 7(7.14.11)
We had a great time today. Though I felt a little tired at the end of the day. Soon, we will be leaving to prepare for our awesome college road trip to Beloit College. Our boss takes our education very seriously and he wants to see through to us in getting into a great college. We are going to have a lot of fun but we might also be a little sleepy because we have to be ready by 6-6:30 a.m. But I...

Blog 6(Taking one for the team)
Today, we had so much fun! So what we did is continue to analyze our fish by doing a analyzing process. It is called morphology, where we each measure the same fish regarding the length and width of the body, fins, spines, rays, and other parts. Then we compare our measurements to see if they are close to each other or match. This is important because this is information that scientist reveal to...

Darcae Blog 5 (How was your week vacation, you...
My vacation can be described in the following EPIC AWESOMENESS!! Like always I underestimated how much fun I was going to have. Even though leaving from Chicago at 1 am in the morning was tedious when it came down to it. The drive to Southern Mississippi was fun overall though. I only spent 2 hours sleeping in the car, so I was pretty much wide awake for the whole trip. During the 14 hour Drive to...
Blog 5 (Back In Action)
Sorry everyone for not blogging in so long. Dr.Dew, Darcae, and I (Amber) went on vacation for a week in a couple of days. I miss the museum very much. This is the place I call home. Though, I was missing home; I was also at my real home having a busy time going to school and my college program, called Chicago Scholars. I got a lot of education and research on colleges and scholarships. I am very...

Darcae Blog 4 (Getting better......)
For the past two days, Amber an I have been working on PCR by ourselves with Dr. Drew helpfully watching over us. If we had any questions he would answer them for us, but for the most part we were managing to do PCRS by ourselves (yay). The process in the morning for these two days was to create our (super awesome) master mix out of sterilized water(ddH20), 10x buffer(10 X PCR Buffer), dntps,2...
Amber Blog 4(7.1.11)
It is a new month, July 1, and everything is getting better and better. Even though we have been here for just two weeks now, it felt like we have been here forever. The days go by quickly and we continue to learn new things, teach it to our friends and family, and get an education in a fun way. I must say I have done some math with the measuring beakers and pipettes; reading with the blue planet...
