This video was actually, really fun to record because we ask several people to say “Amblyglyphidodon.” Amblyglyphidodon is a genus of fish that we are working on. Have Fun Watching the video!:)
This is a video we shot, asking people at the Field Museum if they knew what a coral reef was. Do you?
This video is a recording of Darcae’s successful PCR from the side view. He actually had 17 samples, and he got 12 out of 17 of his samples to work of the second PCR. I (Amber) got 4 out of 12 of my samples to work the second PCR. Great Job Darcae! We did very good.

Darcae Blog 3 (Work Time)
Second day(6/28/11), yesterday Amber and I worked on PCRs with Dr. Drew (our fun boss). For the large amount of people that doesn’t know what a PCR is, a PCR is basically a way to look(or analyze) at a gene as if it was a book in a library. Basically by isolating the gene we want to look at, one ignores the rest of the DNA that he doesn’t want to see at the moment, much like...

These last two days have been very fantastic! Yesterday, we did a PCR with our Amblyglyphidodon DNA. We help gave some important tips to other teens on using flip cameras to record videos. We also watched an amazing Blue Planet episode where I learned some new things, like tropical beaches and reef sand comes from Parrot fish.
Today, we got to make two agarose gels to analyze our samples of DNA...

Last week the morning training we got to teach us the basics of extraction and analyzing DNA had been really helpful and yet fun. Never have i been so interested in learning. I’m kinda surprised on how much I’m enjoying this internship here at the Field Museum.
I thought all museums were boring...

Amber Blog 2 (6.27.11)
Hey, today we start our second week at the Field Museum. Darcae and I got to extract, label, and just work on amazing Amblyglyphidodon DNA. The reason we were extracting is to get good DNA so we can sequence it. This helps us to find out if these fish are new species. Sequencing is a long process, however, extracting is just the beginning. But I was excited to get it out of the way. Especially for...

Today was the beginning of my scientific journey. It was the most exciting journey ever. My co-worker and best buddy, Darcae, and I got training in a DNA lab. We met other interns and a nice girl...
